My name is Emily (J) West and I am:
perseverant, passionate and sometimes very opinionated.
I seek truth above all else.
And that truth is different for me than it may be for you.
And that's okay.
I explore uncomfortable topics and themes through my [mostly] fictional writing in order to bring light to not-so-fun topics.
I want the world to be a better place tomorrow than it is today, and in order to do that we must look the ugly truths square in the face and encounter the darkness. Imagining worlds with advanced biological weapons technologies, unsavory sentients amalgams and future dystopian terrorscapes is how I explore the enchanting world we live in so we can fight these dark forces with self-awareness, solidarity and love.
I've spent a good portion of my life working through how to become a better human being.
My unusual upbringing in a house filled with ghosts and generational trauma nearly wrecked me. Through near death experiences, addictions, health calamities, premonitions, self-hatred and failures, I've learned that life isn't about being perfect, but rather learning from our choices and moving onward as best as we can.
We can make peace with our past, because our younger self lives on within us. Who I am today is no different than yesterday or tomorrow, for I am here now and that's all that matters. The little girl with the mullet and the clip-on skeleton earrings for her yearbook photo is the same woman that today admonishes illogical authority figures and bucks conventions. If the skeleton earrings make you happy, then wear them ffs.
If you want to see my writing and become more acquainted with me, check out the rest of my blog. I have labels for stuff. It can get pretty gritty.
But life is terribly beautiful and crisp when you find your light to illuminate the world around you.
